D9757/1 1830 - Letter from Sarah Overbury to Josiah Overbury Letter 1 of 2:

"September 20th 1830

My dear Josiah,
As Mamma is dining at Mr Barnards I am going to write a note to you
I have sent you a pair of trousers with your best hat in your hat box and if Mr Ellis will find your *** shoes in time I shall send them also - I had a very quick head last evening in drinking tea with Mr Hale I think I seriously *** speak to *** ** *** *** my before Hannah and Anne black jacket with him this morning and mammas and pappas [HOLE IN LETTER] with him today. To you dear we have *** of him
I only wishest you would have shared our pleasures but we shall all have and find that it will be our lot to sacrifice pleasure and study and we shall always be able to look back with more satisfaction on the parts of our life where we have made such sacrifices than when we have acted contrarily.

I shall be *** when Saturday Evening since it seems a very long for you to be away from us - I hope you will [HOLE IN LETTER] as you can be away from home - And believe me
Yours very affectionately,

Sarah Overbury"
