man William II of Angoulême, Count of Angoulême‏‎ 1) 2)
Born ‎± 952
Died ‎6 Apr 1028‎, approximately 76 years 3)

Notes: Also known as William Taillefer, he was Count of Angloueme from c987,

William went to Jerusalem c 1026, on a pilgrimage - dying not long afterwards on his return to Angouleme.

Married 1)
to:

woman Gerberga d'Anjou‏‎ 4) 1) 5)

Notes: In the Angouleme charters and Ademar's Chronique, Gerberga is named several times as wife of William, and also as mother of Alduin, William's oldest son and successor. William's wife is never referred to as Ermengarde.

Geberga is sometimes considered to be the same individual as Ermengarde d'Anjou, on the basis that the Saint Aubin genealogies only give William one daughter - Ermengarde. This is a very weak reason for conflating what would seem to be two entirely distinct daughters based on names, locations etc.

Child:

1.
man Geoffrey of Angoulême, Count of Angoulême‏ 2)
Died ‎1048 2)

Notes: Geoffrey's older brother, Alduin, first succeeded William II as Count in 1028, before Geoffrey then succeeded in 1032.
