Died 727 Notes: Murchad mac Brain Mut (died 727) was a King of Leinster from the Uí Dúnlainge branch of the Laigin. He was the son of Bran Mut mac Conaill (died 696), a previous king. He ruled from 715 to 727. Children: 1. Fáelán mac Murchada of Uí Dúnlainge, King of Leinster 1)Died 738 Notes: Fáelán mac Murchado (died 738) was a King of Leinster from the Uí Dúnlainge branch of the Laigin. He was the son of Murchad mac Brain Mut (died 727), a previous king. He ruled from 728 to 738. He is first mentioned in the annals in 727 when he won a victory at the Battle of Bairenn or Inis Bregainn leading the men of Liffey over Eterscél mac Cellaig of the Uí Máil of Cualu and Congal mac Brain who were slain. In 728 he acquired the throne of Leinster by slaying his elder brother Dúnchad mac Murchado (died 728) at the Battle of Ailenn (Co.Kildare). 2. Muiredach mac Murchada of Uí Dúnlainge, King of Leinster 1)Died 760 Notes: Muiredach mac Murchado (died 760) was a King of Leinster from the Uí Dúnlainge branch of the Laigin. He was the son of Murchad mac Brain Mut (died 727), a previous king. He ruled from 738 to 760. The Laigin had suffered a crushing defeat at the Battle of Áth Senaig (Ballyshannon, County Kildare) in 738 at the hands of the High King Áed Allán mac Fergaile (died 743) of the Cenél nEógain. Muiredach maintained good relations the High King of Ireland, Domnall Midi (died 763) of the Clann Cholmáin. Muiredach's son Bran Ardchenn mac Muiredaig (died 795) married Domnall Midi's daughter Eithne. In 759 Domnall led a host of the Laigin as far as Mag Muirtheimne, near Dundalk. | |||
