John first married Margery Unknown before secondly marrying Isabel Russell. Child: 1.  Jane Drayton 5)Born ± 1409 3) Died 1436, approximately 27 years 4) Notes: Whether Jane Drayton is mother of Katherine Barantyne is very unclear. Drew Barantyne supposedly married three times - based on various secondary sources (e.g. History of Parliament): 1) Jane Drayton (died 1436) 2) Beatrice, supposed illegitimate daughter of William de la Pole (died 1446) - though Douglas Richardson has effectively refuted this filiation (https://groups.google.com/g/soc.genealogy.medieval/c/T49dL7Tk_wE) 3) Jane Throckmorton, daughter of John Throckmorton of Fladbury, widow of Robert Gifford Drew's heir was John Barantyne, born c1436 to Jane Drayton. Primary sources confirm this. His will (date 1453) leaves to his wife Jane Throckmorton 100 marks, and the like to Thomas, Drew and Alice, his three children by her. Drew's will also mentions the following daughters: 1) Katherine, wife of William Fettiplace, 2) Agnes, wife of Walter Barow, 3) Jane, wife of Robert Kentwode, 4) Margaret, wife of John Cotsymore Therefore, given Katherine was already married in 1453 she must have been born 1441 at the latest (assuming she was 12 at marriage), which would seem to rule out wife 3 for chronological reasons. Katherine's husband, William Fettiiplace was born circa1423 (supported by IPM) and died in 1454. His sole heir at death was his daughter Anne/Sybil Fettiplace. That Katherine already had a child in 1454, means she was at the latest born c1438. This starts to make wife 1 look significantly more likely than wife 2 - both to move her age closer to William's, and to allow for a more likely child-bearing age. Katherine remarried to Robert Danvers - and their relationship was childless - which also supports an earlier date of birth. On the basis of the above, Jane Drayton is likely mother of Katherine. | |||

3) Source: Chancery: Inquisitions Post Mortem, Series I, Henry V "Drayton, John, kt... by their deed, dated at Dyrham on 27 Sept. 1400 and also shown, granted them to Thomas de la Ryvere, Isabel his wife and the heirs of their bodies, with remainder to Thomas and his heirs. They had issue Maurice. Thomas died and John Drayton, knight, married Isabel. He died holding the manors in right of Isabel...Ralph Russell, knight, held the manor and advowson of Dyrham...and by his deed, dated at Romsey on 19 Aug. 1369, granted it to Maurice his son and Isabel, Maurice’s wife, daughter of Edmund de Chelreye...Maurice and Isabel had issue Margaret now wife of Gilbert Denys, knight, and Isabel late the wife of John Drayton. Maurice and Isabel died, and half the manor descended to each of their daughters. John Drayton died holding half in right of Isabel...He died on 3 Oct. last.
