Family
William Barnden 1) Son of John Barnden and Grace Burt. Born ± 1770 Alfriston, Sussex, England 2) 3) Baptised 7 Jan 1770 Alfriston, Sussex, England 3) Died ± Mar 1845 Offham, Kent, England, approximately 75 years 4) Occupations: 1841 Offham, Kent, England; Agricultural Labourer 2), 1846; Inn Keeper / Victualler 1) Residence: 1841 Offham, Kent, England 2) Notes: William's son John was married in Brighton and Henry's family also lived in or around Brighton. John's marriage was witnessed by Isaiah and Maria Barnden. William, and his wife (Ann Geer), were both widowed at the time of their marriage. The second witness provides a clue as to William's first marriage. Lucy cozens witnesses - the sister of William's first wife, Sarah Cozens. William and Sarah were both non-conformist. Their children are baptised at Heathfield Chapel and Sarah is herself buried at Alfriston Chapel. Marriage notice 30 Jul 1815 Brighton, Sussex, England 5) Married 28 Aug 1815 Brighton, Sussex, England 6) (approximately 26 years married) to: Ann Unknown 5) Born ± 1790 Not Kent 2) Died ± Mar 1842 Malling, Kent, United Kingdom, approximately 52 years 7) Residence: 1841 Offham, Kent, England 2) Notes: Ann may have been born Ann Geer/Gear. It is unclear if her maiden name was or was not Geer as she was a widow at marriage. Interestingly William's second marriage was witnessed by Lucy Cozens, presumably a relative of his first wife. Ann subsequently remarried in 1846, where she recorded her name as Ann Geer Barnden. Children: 1. John Barnden2. Elizabeth BarndenBorn ± 1816 Alfriston, Sussex, England 3.
