Family
John Crophull 1) Born before 1321 2) Died 3 Jul 1383, at least 62 years 2) 3) Notes: John married at least twice - to Margery and then to Joan. John de Crophill is variously described as of Nottingham and Hereford. The manor of Weobley was acquired through his marriage. Given the manor was passed in fee-tail to the heirs of their bodies, and that it was inherited by their grand-daughter Agnes, Margery is almost certainly her grand-mother and thus the mother of Thomas. John is possibly the son of William de Crophull, mentioned in a grant dated c1348: "Grant in tail by John son of William de Crophull of Nottingham, to Henry Flemyng of the same, and Emma his wife, of a messuage in the Great Smiths' street (vico magnorum fabrorum) in Nottingham" (C 146/3371) and William was probably the son of a William: "William, the son of William Cropwell {Crophill} [merchant] in Nottingham [Notts]." from an endorsement dated 1308 (C 241/58/2). Some secondary sources (e.g. Plantagenet Ancestry) identify John's father as Thomas, but their source for that statement is unclear. Married/ Related to: Child: |
