His father was probably John Rudhale but no primary or reliable secondary evidence for this has yet been identified. A pedigree printed in "Collections toward the histories and antiquities of the County of Hereford Volume 3" identifies the following ancestry for William: 1) John Rudhale (d. 1503) and Johanna Cowley (daughter of William Cowley) 2) William Rudhale 3) Nicholas Rudhale of Brampton, purchased lands in 1411 4) Roger Rudhale, of Rudhall Child: 1. John Rudhale 2)Born 1498 3) Died 1530, 31 or 32 years 2) 3) Election: Elected as MP for Herefordshire 1529 3) Will signed: 27 Jul 1530 2) Election: Admitted to Inner Temple 7 Feb 1515/16 3) Notes: History of Parliament mentions the below. "Although when he made his will on 13 May 1530, barely two months after his father’s death, Rudhale professed himself ‘whole in mind and in body’, his own death followed swiftly and the will was proved on the same day, 27 July, as his father’s. It reveals him as a conscientious son and father in his limitation of his funeral expenses to 40s. so that his own father’s debts could be paid and his six or more young children provided for. His wife, who is not mentioned, may have predeceased him; his executors were his mother and a cousin, and another relative, his ‘master’ Sir Thomas Englefield, judge of the common pleas and joint master of the wards, was appropriately entrusted with the wardship of the heir." John's will was interpreted at an inquest held 6 Dec 1532 in order to determine which Rudhall properties should be held for his son, John. The inquest found that John left £20 for daughters Ann, Jane, Joyce (Jocosa) and Isabella and £40 was paid "to enable [Mr. Justice Englefield] to purchase the wardship and marriage of John Rudhale his son". Thomas Englefield was son of Thomas (c1450-1514), son of John Englefield and Jane daughter of John Milbourne. Thomas the father's first wife was Margery daughter of Richard Danvers. Thomas the son's wife was Elizabeth, daughter of Robert Throckmorton. It would therefore seem the kinship was through John's mother, a relative of John Milbourne. | |||
