man Eric "the Victorious" of Sweden, King of Sweden‏‎ 1)
Born ‎± 945
Died ‎± 995‎, approximately 50 years

Notes: According to Wikipedia, "Eric the Victorious is named in a number of sagas, Nordic tales of history preserved from oral tradition. In various stories, he is described as the son of a Björn Eriksson and as having ruled together with his brother Olaf. One saga describes his marriage to the infamous Queen Sigrid the Haughty, daughter of a legendary Viking, Skagul Toste, and how in their divorce he gave her all of Gothenland as a fief. According to Eymund's saga he then took a new queen, Aud, daughter of Haakon Sigurdsson, ruler of Norway."

Eric's ancestry, and wife, have not been listed here as the contradictory stories in the sagas, and lack of primary evidence, make it difficult to differentiate between legend and reality. Even Eric's existence is uncertain, with limited primary evidence (e.g. no coins), albeit he is listed in at least two independent secondary sources. Adam of Bremen does detail earlier Kings, and was written in the 11th century, so may be reasonably reliable for some of these, but it is unclear how they relate to Eric.

Eric's date of birth is highly approximate. His date of death is based on Adam of Bremen's account which supports a date of between 992 and 995, and the appearance of coins in his son's name appearing in 995.

woman Unknown‏‎

Notes: This is possibly Sigrid the Haughty, albeit evidence is weak and sources do identify alternative marriages for Eric (e.g. to Świętosława, a daughter of the King of Poland). "According to Adam of Bremen she was the sister or daughter of Boleslaw I Chrobry of Poland, but, according to Icelandic sources, she was Sigrid the Haughty (Sigrid Storråda), a daughter of the Viking chief Skoglar Toste."
