Poppa Unknown 1) 2) Notes: The only contemporary source identifying Poppa's name, is Dudo, whose work is often unreliable - Dudo identifies Poppa as a daughter of the Count Berengar. The only contemporary mention of Rollo's wife describes her as a Christian but does not provide her name. Married/ Related to: Rollo of Normandy, Leader of the Normans of Rouen 3) 4) 2) 5) 6) Died between 928 and 933 3) 7) Notes: Rollo's parents are unknown. Dudo identifies him as having a brother Gurim, and being of Danish (Dacian) origin. Dudo probably had access to individuals with first-hand knowledge of Rollo so unlike most origin tales, this may be true. This might explain Rollo's friendship with Alstem of the East Angles in England - Alstem was the Danish King Guthrum, baptised by Alfred the Great as Athelstan. Children: 1. Adele of NormandyDied 14 Oct 962 Notes: While Dudo does not name Adele, he confirms that William of Poitou married a daughter of Rollo. |
