Herbert of Winchester 1) Died before 1130 1) Occupation: Chamberlain 2) Residence: 1086 Winchester, Hampshire, England 2) Notes: Herbert appears in the Domesday book as "Herbert the chamberlain" Herbert died sometime after 1111 and certainly before 1130 when his son pays a fine for the inheritance of Herbert's lands. It is probable Herbert the Chamberlain is the "H. the Chamberlain" who attempted to assasinate Henry I in 1118 and whom the King subsequently blinded and castrated as punishment. Married/ Related to: Unknown Notes: Various secondary sources identify Herbert of Winchester's wife as Emma de Blois, illegitimate half-sister of King Stephen.
