Notes: John Dixon was a coal miner for most of his life, except for circa 1861. At the time of the 1861 census, John was living with his aunt, Margaret Jackson (landlady of the fox and hounds), and sister (or cousin) Ann Dixon, a dressmaker. Intriguingly he is recorded as a school master.

All censuses show John as born in Longhorsley, in either 1835 or 1836.
