Family

man Robert Hopper‏‎ 1)

Notes: The Robert, married to Margaret, who has children baptised in Bradworthy is this Robert, as Catherine died shortly after and was buried in Woolfardisworthy.

A Robert Hopper marries Elizabeth Heard at Bradworthy in 1743. This cannot be this Robert, given thie Robert married in Woolfardisworthy to Margaret the same year.
There is a 1770 marriage in Bradworthy between Robert Hopper and Joane Heddon. This couple had at least one child (Catherine in 1771). Both were described as "of the parish" and Robert was recorded as a "yeoman". This could either be a "new" Robert, or a second marriage for this Robert, or a second marriage for the Robert who wed Elizabeth Heard.
There is an Elizabeth Hopper buried in 1768 at Bradworthy. There is a Margaret Hopper buried at Woolfardisworthy in 1768. Therefore, if we assume these two individuals are the partners of the two Roberts, then either could have remarried in 1770.

On balance, it is likelier this Robert did not re-marry to Joane, as he had returned to Woolfardisworthy by 1661, so is less likely to be "of Bradworthy".

There is a separate Robert Hopper (husband of Elizabeth), of about the same age, living at WItheridge. This is a distinct family.

Robert Hopper's burial cannot be identified with certainty - various options exist:
Robert, buried 1773 at Bradworthy - this would explain why the Robert who married Joane in 1770 only has the one child born in 1771; he died shortly after.
Robert, buried 1785, a pauper, at West Woolfardisworthy - given Robert's last confirmed children were born in Woolfardisworthy, a reasonable option.
Robert, buried 1790 at Hartland, a pauper - this would align with the family having generally moved towards Hartland. Having said that, this feels less likely for this Robert, as his children were not living in Hartland in 1790

There is a Robert, son of John and Elizabeth, baptised 1718 at Monkleigh and a Robert, son of Robert, baptised 1716 at Sutcombe. Both of these two baptisms fit chronologically, and are in the right geographic location. Neither is shown here, as both options would equally work for the Robert who marries Elizabeth Heard. Having said that, Woolfardisworthy's parish records only begin in 1723, and the Bishops Transcripts from before that date are patchy, and of low quality - so it is very possible Robert's baptism record no longer survives.

Married ‎26 Jan 1743/44 Woolfardisworthy, Devon, England 2)
to:

woman Margaret Rogerman‏‎ 1)
Born ‎± 1721 Woolfardisworthy, Devon, England‎ 3)
Baptised ‎13 Nov 1721 Woolfardisworthy, Devon, England 3)

Notes: Margaret's burial date is uncertain. There is a Margaret Hopper buried 1768, and a Margaret buried in 1786 in Woolfardisworthy. Both of these options are reasonable. If Robert did remarry to Joane, then the first is correct. Otherwise, either option could be correct.
