man Richard Surgent‏‎ 1)

Notes: Given the Hopgoods were blacksmiths and the Surgents were blacksmith in Kilkhampton, this Richard is probably connected to one of the "known" Richard Surgent blacksmiths, who appear elsewhere in this tree. There is no marriage, however, between a Richard and Susan at Kilkhampton, or neighbouring parishes, and his baptism and burial records similarly do not appear at Kilkhampton. Susan is the only child baptised to Richard and Susan, There is a small chance that Susan's name is a mistake in the parish record - the writer accidentally repeating Susan's name. Susanna would fit nicely as a child of Richard Surgent and Mary Ching.
